Themed months

So Rich and I have finally sorted out the details of a small project that we will be doing on this blog.
As well as posting powerful emotive images (:P) when we can we have also decided that we will have “theme months”. The plan is to come up with a theme that we will run for a month or so and Rich and I will take weeks about posting pictures associated with that theme. The first theme that Rich suggested is “Winter” and I’m first up so from now until next Sunday I’ll be doing my best to take photos that speak to me of winter, then Rich will have a turn for a week, then we take another week each. After that we will choose a new theme and repeat.
Heres hoping it works out and this gets the creative juices flowing!

Her red parasol

Her red parasol

Aren’t umbrella’s great? For something thats so common, functional and a part of everyday life it’s great how they can be so striking when they are a little out of the norm. From cute kids ones with cat ears to Chinese parasols umbrellas, are undeniably cool.

I love the sense of mystery when you happen across someone using a parasol or umbrella from behind in fine weather. There is just something classy and cool about it.

This women was posing for her wedding photos in a gorgeous Japanese garden in Hiroshima and I couldn’t believe the photographer wasn’t getting any shots from this angle!

testing.

Getting started

So starting a blog, something I didn’t think I’d ever do. I’ve always thought that unless you are a funny guy random musings online are a waste of time. Then I picked up photography as a hobby (obsession).

After posting a bit of work on facebook and flickr a good friend and I were talking about ways to motivate ourselves to get out there and take photos. A way to express ourselves and to try and push our skills and develop as photographers. After trying a failed “PhotoStream” experiment on facebook we decided that we would push out by ourselves and try and take it to the next step.

And so the frame exchange was born. The idea here is that on alternating weeks Dikaru and I will post up at least 1 picture on a certain theme chosen at random (as well as other non-themed photos of ours that we like), heck if anyone out there starts looking at this blog we are even open for suggestions.  I’m hoping this is going to force us to get out there and look at the world around us. Try and think outside the square and find something beyond the first glance. It might even make us better photographers and if someone out there can get some enjoyment from what we are doing then even better :)
