Adventures in processing

untitled_8761

I’ve been experimenting with different styles of processing my files in regards to colour and effect. Photography isn’t just about documenting “true-to-life” scenes. I believe it’s also about creating compelling and visually interesting imagery.

Hiroshima bride

I’ve learned new workflows for processing my RAW image files. Subsequently, I’ve returned to some of my old shots to see what I can bring out in them. What I thought were mediocre shots before, turned out to have some hidden detail that just needed the right treatment to become a great photo.

We visited one of the historical gardens of Hiroshima last year and it was Sakura time. A celebrated and much-loved time of the year for the Japanese. There were multiple bridal parties having photos taken in traditional garb and I managed to get in on the action.

Time to slowly resurrect this photoblog

No theme. No reason. Just gotta get the ball rolling again. Been taking lots of photos, just not posting them here. Naughty naughty.

I’m quite happy with this shot. Was able to catch the reflection of the building across the road, with bus driving past, in Ken’s bright eyes. Hasn’t he got wonderful skin?

Caterpillar

Caterpiller

From the very large to the very small, I recently found this little fellow in my backyard eating my coriander.

Waarrggghhh!

Been a while. Thought I’d awaken the beast so to speak…

Still no theme. Holiday period has been busy. Many photos taken, many photos unprocessed and unposted.

Time to get the ball rolling.

Bzzzz

I’ve just discovered the joy of taking photos of flowers with bees/insects in. Not sure why it took me this long.

I found it much easier to focus on the flower and wait for the bee rather than chase the bee around.

Hopefully the summer will yield many more opportunities for me.

Young love

Young love

Hi people sorry for the extended hiatus, I’ve had some stuff going but it’s all sorted now!

I was walking back to work a while ago after lunch and I spotted this lovely young couple sitting on a bench. I loved the young girls body language so I snapped a shot. I’ve been trying to get into the other side of street photography, candids as well as the stranger portraits that I do.

This shot has also been a bit of an experiment for me in editing. I felt the loving/sweet tone set by the girl suited an old timey/desaturated look. I hope you agree with me :)

What’s for lunch?

IMG_6492

This lil fella came up to me whilst I was having lunch at the park.

Must get fed quite often because he was confident enough to come right up to me.

Feel kinda bad that I didn’t give him any of my sandwich after taking this snap. He posed for me brilliantly.

Landing

Be prepared to see a lot more birds in action.

This new 85mm is great for catching the action. Nice telephoto length with a fast aperture to help keep the shutter speeds up. A recipe for freezing birds in flight.

Just need to get closer now.

Midday snooze

IMG_6078

Found an empty lot near my place of work on one of my mid-lunch strolls. Place was completely overgrown with weeds and brush.

Happened to notice a snail having a rest in the sun. I felt like having a snooze too.

*Shot on my new EF 85mm f/1.8 USM. So far so good. Colour and Detail might be as good, if not better, as my Voigtlander 40mm f/2.
